History

1873 Carl Eder acquires an equipment and chain smithy at the location of today's enterprise. The contact with stone masons gave rise to the idea of replacing the silica sand used for cutting plates of stone by more efficient steel grit.

1880 Steel massa, heat-treated granulated steel, is manufactured for the first time. Its technical superiority makes the cutting of the hardest rocks possible.

1890 Steel massa is also used for smoothing the surfaces of cut hard rock. This is the company?s first contact with surface technology.

1900 Johann Eder takes over the enterprise after his father's death. Already 12 "stampers", waterwheel-powered helve hammers, are in operation.
1923 Years of development work makes the manufacture of chilled cast abrasive possible for the first time, to replace the steel massa. By analogy with steel massa it is wrongly called steel grit. The new product is excellent for cutting, smoothing and polishing rock and for abrasive-blasting.
1933 For his "appliance for manufacturing metal grit" Johann Eder is granted a patent. In its basic concept, throwing the liquid iron off a rotating wheel, this appliance is still used today.

1938 After his father's death Hubert Eder becomes the proprietor of the firm. The technically and economically optimal steel grit is already winning international recognition.

1945 Hubert Eder returns from the war seriously wounded and tries to take up the production again. During his absence his wife had been forced to carry on the enterprise that had become "essential to the war effort".

1952 Son Hubert Eder becomes partner in the company.
1962 The manufacturing plant for a new generation of abrasives is taken into operation.

The special cast steel abrasive manufactured now is excellent for use in centrifugal wheel machines.
The range of products is completed with abrasives made from other materials.
1972 The graduated engineer Hubert Eder takes the place of his father, who retires after 40 years of activity in his firm.
1973 The company celebrates its 100th anniversary.

1987 His sons Gerhard and Albert Eder, together with Franz Mosburger, found their own company for manufacturing and selling sandblasting equipment. In the preceding years a clear change from abrasives specialist to supplier of complete materials processing technologies and solutions for sandblasting as a whole had taken shape.

1990 The management of the abrasives plant is passed into the hands of the next generation by Hubert Eder.
1994 Paint spraying is included into the company's program. This makes the Eder company a complete supplier of surface technology.
1997 A new operating area is opened up with the production of mobile abrasive reclaim equipment.
1998 125th anniversary.

2001 A big fire destroyed our abrasive production completely. To sell abrasives is still a main part of EDER, but since this time our production of abrasives is moved to an English daughter of WA. Since this time we only produce sandblasting units and -equipments at our facility.
2003 The Production of “customer made units” was splitted to a new founded company called M.A.L. MECHATRONIK, which is on the same place as EDER.
2010 The PHENICS project emerged from “Slag conversion project” and already in the first year proofed to be successful
2011 With the strong performance of the PHENICS units we will increase our sales of Premium abrasive products furthermore. The machines are developed and produced by M.A.L. Mechatronik on the same destination in Gloggnitz-Enzenreith.
After nearly 140 years successful story we all work together
for our “customer-satisfaction” every day!
